These regulations replace existing guidelines and set the maximum permitted levels of 9 different types of food contaminants, including Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) compounds, Dioxins and PCBs, Melamine and its analogs, Mycotoxins, and Metals, aiming to protect public health in general and add a specific reference to sensitive populations such as infants and toddlers.

Furthermore, foodstuffs that are not complying with the maximum levels set out in these draft regulations shall not be used as food ingredients, nor shall be used mixed with food complying with the maximum levels.
