Protection of Public Health Regulations (Food) (Setting maximum levels of contaminants in foods) 5781-2021 (43 page(s), in Hebrew)

New draft regulations announced by Israel's Ministry of Health called "Protection of Public Health Regulations (Food) (Setting maximum levels of contaminants in foods) 5781-2021" and that are set in accordance with the European Commission Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006.

These regulations replace existing guidelines and set the maximum permitted levels of 9 different types of food contaminants, including Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) compounds, Dioxins and PCBs, Melamine and its analogs, Mycotoxins, and Metals, aiming to protect public health in general and add a specific reference to sensitive populations such as infants and toddlers.

The regulations require that a food product containing a contaminant listed in the regulations' annexes that exceeds the permitted level must not be manufactured, imported, or marketed in Israel. Furthermore, foodstuffs that are not complying with the maximum levels set out in these draft regulations shall not be used as food ingredients, nor shall be used mixed with food complying with the maximum levels.
