The notified Technical Regulation establishes the minimum safety requirements to be met by motor vehicles circulating in Ecuador, and those presented exclusively as chassis fitted with engines for motor vehicles, prior to the marketing of domestic and imported products, with the aim of protecting human safety and preventing misleading practices.

The notified Technical Regulation applies to the following products:

·         Motor vehicles to be incorporated into the Ecuadorian motor vehicle fleet, whether imported into, assembled or manufactured in the country, which must meet the minimum safety requirements for motor vehicle parts specified in Chapter 4;

·         Chassis fitted with engines and with one or more of the safety parts specified in Chapter 4, whether imported into, assembled or manufactured in the country;

·         Motor vehicles specified in NTE INEN 2656 "Clasificación vehicular" (Ecuadorian Technical Standard NTE INEN 2656 "Vehicle classification") and in the categories of vehicles determined in the text of each requirement or in the regulations referred to in the text.

The notified Technical Regulation does not apply to:

·         Category L vehicles; 

^.         Prototype vehicles intended for the development of new models, which belong to assembly plants or marketing enterprises and which cannot be marketed during this phase.
