Fishing gear and parts thereof containing plastic

Requirements and procedures for the collection, return to the producer and recovery or disposal of waste from fishing gear and its components containing plastic, as well as collection rates and deadlines for achievingcollection rates

The purpose of the draft Regulation is to bring Estonian national law into conformity with Directive (EU)2019/904 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the reduction of the impact of certain plasticproducts on the environment (OJ L 155, 12.6.2019, pp. 1-19; hereinafter, the Directive). The aim of theDirective is to reduce the negative impact of plastic products on the environment, in particular on the marineenvironment. One of the means to reduce the environmental impact of products containing plastic is theintroduction of extended producer responsibility requirements for fishing gear containing plastic.

This regulation sets requirements for the collection and handling of waste from fishing gear and their partscontaining plastic.
The Regulation is established on the basis of § 26(3) and (8) of the Waste Act.
The purpose of the Regulation is to implement the obligation for producers of fishing gear containing plastic tobear the responsibility for products placed on the market throughout their life cycle and to organise theircollection and handling in such a way as to be free of charge and as convenient as possible for the user.
