Vehicles in categories T1, T2, C1 and C2 with a design speed not exceeding 60 km/h.

Modification of tractor propulsion system.

This Regulation applies to the modification of the engine and change of propulsion system of vehicles in categories T1, T2, C1 or C2 with a design speed not exceeding 60 km/h, and to the replacement of the engine and the demonstration of conformity of these modifications in the registration or modification inspection.

Replacement of an internal combustion engine with another internal combustion engine is permitted by virtue of the Regulation provided that the new engine complies with the emissions requirements in force at the time the vehicle was entered into service or newer requirements, and that the vehicle complies with the requirements of the Regulation, such as power and noise level requirements.
The Regulation allows, under the conditions laid down therein, the replacement of an internal combustion engine with an electric motor and the replacement of an electric motor with another electric motor.
Section 6 concerns the conversion of an engine to fully or partially use liquefied gas, natural gas or wood gas.
In accordance with the definition of ‘natural gas’, this section also applies to the conversion of an engine to fully or partially use biomethane. The Regulation lays down requirements for the approval of gas conversions in a modification inspection up to stage III B for compression-ignition engines and up to stage IV for spark-ignition engines. The emission requirements laid down in the Regulation for engines of such vehicles are deemed to be met if the emissions limits applying to the engine in question are not exceeded in the emissions test compliant with the Regulation on the Assessment Criteria Used in Periodic Vehicle Inspections which is carried out during the modification inspection.
