Packaging and packaging waste

Draft Rules amending the Rules on packaging and packaging waste

These draft rules define measures for reducing the consumption of plastic carrier bags. As of 31 December 2018, the provision of free lightweight plastic carrier bags at points of sale of goods or products shall be prohibited. At places where very lightweight plastic carrier bags are provided free of charge, the seller shall post a visible notice for consumers concerning the sparing and rational use of these bags with the following sign: ‘VREĆICA ČUVA HRANU, A VI OKOLIŠ’ [THE BAG PROTECTS THE FOOD, AND YOU PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT].

This draft rules additionally bring into conformity the marking of packaging of products placed on the market in the Republic of Croatia with Commission Decision 97/129/EC of 28 January 1997 establishing the identification system for packaging materials pursuant to European Parliament and Council Directive 94/62/EC on packaging and packaging waste (Text with EEA relevance) (OJ L 50, 20.2.1997), and additionally regulate the marking of beverage packaging that is covered by the refundable fee scheme. They also define provisions concerning the heavy metal content in the packaging and provisions relating to the submission of required data to the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund when placing a new packaged product on the market in the Republic of Croatia for the first time.
