This Regulation applies to motor vehicles of categories M and N equipped with electric power train with a maximum design speed exceeding 25 km/h, excluding those permanently connected to the grid.

The notified draft MERCOSUR Technical Regulation seeks to establish minimum safety requirements that must be met by electric vehicles with regard to the electric power train, with a view to improving road safety in the MERCOSUR States Parties. Regulation No. 100 of the United Nations - Uniform provisions concerning the approval of vehicles with regard to specific requirements for the electric power train, and Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 305 of the United States were taken into consideration in the development of this draft Regulation.
