PROYECTO DE LEY QUE MODIFICA EL CÓDIGO SANITARIO, CON EL OBJETO DE ESTABLECER NORMAS SOBRE LA TRAZABILIDAD DEL HUEVO Y LA CERTIFICACIÓN DE HUEVOS DE GALLINA FELIZ O LIBRE (Draft Law amending the Health Code in order to establish rules on egg traceability and the certification of free-range eggs) (1 page, in Spanish)

The notified Draft Law seeks to amend the Health Code contained in Decree-Law No. 725 of 1967 of the Ministry of Health by incorporating a new Paragraph III (on eggs) into Title II (on foodstuffs) of Book IV (on pharmaceuticals, foodstuffs, cosmetics and medical products). The Draft Law provides as follows:

"Article 105 undecies: Egg packaging or boxes must provide information on the origin of the product and the treatment the eggs have received, as well as on the rearing of, and the drugs and treatments administered to, the hens. This information will be provided through a QR code, or another equivalent electronic means, stamped on the packaging.

The proper certification must be in place to sell eggs as free range.

A regulation will set out the details with respect to the content and form of the information to be provided under this Article, as well as the form of and requirements for the certification mentioned in the preceding subparagraph.

This Article will not apply to micro and small producers. A regulation will establish the criteria for determining the quality of micro and small producers.". Transitional provision: This Draft Law will enter into force nine months after its publication in the Official Journal.
