Toys (products intended for use by a child under 14 years of age in learning or play) HS codes: 9501, 9502, 9503; ICS: 97.200.50
The Toys Regulations under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (CCPSA) have been amended to clarify existing requirements, update test methods and delete redundancies or obsolete requirements. Specifically:
• section 27 (prohibition of certain toxic substances in the plastic material in toys for children less than three years of age), Schedule 2 (performance criteria and test methods related to the acute toxicity of substances and stuffing materials in toys) and Schedule 3 (performance criteria and test methods related to irritation, corrosion or sensitization of substances and stuffing materials in toys) have been modified;
• section 43 and Schedule 9 (performance criteria and test methods for batteries used in toys) have been deleted;
• new definitions have been added to section 1; and
• sections 7, 26, 29 and 36 (French version only) have been reworded.
