Heavy fuel oil

Order prohibiting transport in bulk as cargo, use as ballast or transport and use as marine fuel of heavy oil inAntarctica and use and transport as marine fuel of heavy oil in the Arctic

The Order implements a prohibition on heavy fuel oil in the Arctic and Antarctic respectively, as laid down inMARPOL Regulations 43 and 43A.

The prohibition shall enter into force on 1 July 2024, subject to certain exceptions for ships complying withMARPOL Annex 1 Regulation 12A or with Regulation 1.2.1 of the Polar Code in Chapter 1 Part II-A.
Certain ships, including warships, used in non-commercial state service are not covered by the prohibition.
