Lifts

Rules on the safety of lifts

These Rules set out the requirements to be met by lifts and safety components for lifts in accordance with Directive 2014/33/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 26 February 2014 on the harmonisation of the laws of the Member States relating to lifts and safety components for lifts (OJ L 96, 29. 3. 2014, p. 251), requirements for takeover and periodic inspections, ensuring the safety of operation, maintenance and management of lifts, rescue from a lift as

well as control and notification procedures.

Due to the specific nature of lifts as a type of product, that requires the safety requirements to be met throughout the entire period of their operation, for which the cooperation of the owner of the lift, the maintenance worker of the lift, the eventual operator of the lift and the persons carrying out rescue from lifts is required, the proposed new rules lay down the obligations of these entities. In the proposal of the new rules the requirements to be met by lifts and safety components for lifts, requirements for takeover and periodic inspections, ensuring the safety of operation, maintenance and management of lifts, rescue
from a lift as well as control and notification procedures are thus comprehensively laid down. The owner of the lift may entrust the management of the lift to a manager who meets the prescribed requirements; the owner shall entrust the maintenance of the lift by contract to a maintenance worker who meets the prescribed requirements; and shall entrust the rescue of persons trapped in a lift to a person carrying out rescue from lifts who meets the prescribed requirements.
