The notified Mexican Official Standard establishes specifications, test methods and commercial information for articles partly or entirely made of or coated with gold, silver, platinum and palladium that are imported into, produced and/or marketed in Mexican territory.

Watches, pens, lighters, glasses and metallic fittings, components, parts and accessories for jewellery items are excluded from the scope of the text. Any product that, even where not consistent with the description or names contained in the text, alludes to the products in question, whether through information provided to consumers in general or through advertising of any sort, regardless of medium, or through text, dialogue, sounds, images, marks or other descriptions that lead or may lead consumers to believe that such products are articles made of gold, silver, palladium and platinum, regardless of the name used for the products, will also be covered by the scope of the text and thus evaluated in accordance therewith, and may be considered in violation of the text's provisions where not in conformity with the parameters, characteristics, controls, processes and requirements provided for in this mandatory technical regulation.
