Labelling for genetically modified (GM) products, methods of analysis for nutritional labelling, labelling for soy sauce and edible plant fat and oil

Summary of the draft Amendment of the Food Labelling Standards (regarding labelling for GM products, methods of analysis for nutritional labelling, labelling for soy sauce and edible plant fat and oil.)

(1) 1. The Food Labelling Standards will be partially amended, because soybean with high oleic acid content can now be produced with conventional breeding techniques and are not subject to definition of "specific GM products" anymore.

2. The Food Labelling Standards will be partially amended, because soybean with high oleic acid content can now be produced with conventional breeding techniques and are not subject to definition of "specific GM products" anymore.

(2) The Food Labelling Standards will be partially amended in accordance with the revision of "Standard Tables of Food Composition in Japan" that adopts some new methods of analysis for nutrients.

(3) The Food Labelling Standards for soy sauce and edible plant fat and oil will be partially amended, because the Food Labelling Standards quote "the Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS)" provisions and the JAS for soy sauce and edible plant fat and oil were/will be revised corresponding to the international standards.
