The notified Ecuadorian Technical Regulation establishes the requirements to be met by personal flotation devices (PFDs), prior to the marketing of domestic and imported products, with the aim of protecting human safety and preventing deceptive practices.

It applies to the following products:

·          Lifejackets for offshore vessels, performance level 275

·         Lifejackets, performance levels 150 and 100

·         Buoyancy aids (level 50)

It does not apply to:

·         Equipment designed to be thrown into the water (life rings: floating devices used to assist people who have fallen into the sea)
