The notified Ecuadorian Technical Regulation establishes minimum safety feature requirements for motor vehicles circulating in Ecuador, as well as those in the form of incomplete vehicles fitted with engines, prior to the marketing of domestic and imported products, with the aim of protecting human safety and preventing deceptive practices.

It applies to:

·         Motor vehicles to be incorporated into the Ecuadorian motor vehicle fleet, whether imported into, assembled or manufactured in the country, which must have the mandatory minimum safety features specified in Chapter 4;

·         Incomplete vehicles that are fitted with engines and have one or more of the safety features specified in Chapter 4, whether imported into, assembled or manufactured in the country;

·         Motor vehicles specified in NTE INEN 2656 "Clasificación vehicular" (Ecuadorian Technical Standard NTE INEN 2656 "Vehicle classification") and in the categories of vehicles determined in the text of each requirement or in the regulations referred to in the text.

It does not apply to:

·         Category L vehicles; 

·         Prototype vehicles intended for the development of new models, which belong to assembly plants or marketing enterprises and which cannot be marketed during this phase.
