The notified draft measure establishes phytosanitary requirements for the importation of in-shell and shelled pecan (Carya illinoinensis) nuts from Argentina, as follows:

1.    It states that the official phytosanitary certificate accompanying the shipment must contain an additional declaration of treatment for Amyelois transitella (Lep.: Pyralidae), as described in the document. It also states the requirements regarding recognition of methyl bromide treatment and the need for the Servicio Nacional de Sanidad Agraria, SENASA (National Agrarian Health Service) to supervise phosphine treatment;

2.    Post-treatment protection requirements to maintain phytosanitary status;

3.    Shipments must be free of soil and other plant remains;

4.    Packaging requirements regarding use, safety, labelling, marking and suitability for possible quarantine treatment actions at points of entry;

5.    Quarantine requirements for wood packaging material and pallets;

6.    Information on inspection requirements at point of entry and steps that may be taken upon detection of regulated pests or of pests that are potentially quarantine pests.
