Fija exigencias sanitarias para la internación de anfibios para laboratorios de investigación o diagnóstico y para centros de exhibición a Chile (Health requirements for the importation into Chile of amphibians for use in

research or diagnostic laboratories or exhibition centres). Language(s): Spanish Number of pages: 4

The following is a brief summary of the health requirements for importing amphibians into the country:

a.     The amphibians must come from a country, zone or compartment declared free of infection with Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis, Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans and the genus Ranavirus, or, if the amphibians come from a country, zone or compartment not declared free of such infection, diagnostic tests must be performed and return negative results for the following pathogenic agents (specify the diagnostic test performed for each agent): Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis, Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans and the genus Ranavirus.

b.    They must come from laboratories, research centres, exhibition centres, breeding centres or hatcheries established and authorized in the country of origin (specify, as applicable).

c.     They must be quarantined at origin, under official supervision, for at least 21 days, during which time no signs of diseases affecting the species may be observed and diagnostic tests for the agents indicated in point 2(a) must be performed in accordance with the OIE Manual of Diagnostic Tests for Aquatic Animals or, if the relevant diagnostic method is not set out in that Manual, with another OIE publication in effect. Diagnostic tests not provided for in the OIE recommendations may be used subject to a prior satisfactory assessment by the Service.

d.    Diagnostic tests must be performed in an official laboratory, one authorized by the competent health authority of the country of origin or one on the OIE list of reference laboratories.

e.    The animals must be transported from the establishment of origin to the place of shipment in washed and disinfected vehicles sealed by the competent health authority, without coming into contact with animals not being exported, and with all necessary measures being taken to ensure sanitary conditions and the welfare of the animals.

f.      The containers used to transport the animals must be cleaned and disinfected prior to use and constructed so as to prevent the spillage of water or seepage of liquids during transport.

g.    There must be a way to view the contents of the containers.

h.    During the 48 hours prior to shipment, the animals must not show any clinical signs of infectious or contagious diseases that can affect their species and there must be no evidence of parasitic diseases.

Also included are requirements that the importer must satisfy prior to the entry of the animals into the Republic of Chile, other measures applicable to the animals once they arrive in the country and management measures at the destination establishment.
