Petroleum products - Liquid fuels

Decree of the Council of Ministers amending the Regulation on the requirements for the quality of liquid fuels, the conditions, the procedure and the method for their control, adopted by Decree No 156 of the Council of Ministers of 2003.

The Regulation on the requirements for the quality of liquid fuels, the conditions, the procedure and the method for their control is pursuant to Article 8 of the Clean Ambient Air Act and lays down the technical and quality requirements for liquid fuels, the limits for the permissible content of lead, sulphur and other harmful substances (contaminants) in them, which the liquid fuels produced, imported for consumption, transported, distributed, stored and/or used in the Republic of Bulgaria must meet.

The Regulation lays down the conditions, the procedure and the method for control of liquid fuels quality after their production, on import - after their release from customs control, in their distribution and/or storage, including at gas stations and in tanks of combustion plants.

The Regulation sets out the methods for assessing and certifying conformity with the quality requirements of liquid fuels.

The requirements of the Regulation shall apply for liquid fuels of oil or biological origin and any mixtures thereof as follows:

- automotive petrol;

- fuels for diesel engines;

- biodiesel and biodiesel for heating;

- gas-oil for industrial and communal purposes;

- fuels for non-road mobile machinery and tractors;

- marine fuels: light marine diesel fuels, marine diesel fuels, residual marine fuels, fuels for inland waterway vessels and recreational craft;

- heavy fuel oils;

- heavy oils.

The Regulation also lays down the technical and quality requirements for biofuels and their mixtures with liquid fuels of oil origin and for biomass liquid fuels according to the Renewable Energy Act.
