Coffins, vehicles, urns

Act of ………… amending the Carinthian Burials and Cremations Act

The transport (transfer) of a dead body is only permitted in a sealed coffin which is suitable in terms of its hygiene and sanitary features and with regard to the condition of the body. Transport may only be carried out with vehicles used exclusively for transporting bodies and which are suitable from a hygienic and sanitary point of view. The Provincial Government may regulate this further by enacting national implementation rules (Article I, subparagraph 20 of the draft Act).

Furthermore, the draft Act stipulates that the ashes of a cremated body must be held in a sealable container (urn). Should the ashes be buried in the form of a natural burial, the urn must be made of biodegradable material. The urn must also be designed in such a way that respect for the dead is maintained (Article I, subparagraph 27 of the draft Act).
