Act equipping electronic health cards with a contactless interface (15th Amending Act to the German Social Security Code, Book V)

From 1 December 2019, health insurance providers are obliged to issue only electronic health cards equipped with a contactless interface. Moreover, every insured person is entitled to immediate issue of a health card with a contactless interface from his or her health insurance provider.

Insured persons and, in future, service providers shall be able to access their medical data as well as future telemedical services using the electronic health card without the need for a supplementary card reader.
