Draft Act amending the Salzburg Youth Act

The decision taken at the conference of provincial youth departments of 20 April 2018 on the subject of harmonising the Austrian youth protection acts forms the basis for this proposed legislative revision. The following was decided with regard to the points given below, which are not currently regulated in this manner by the Salzburg Youth Act: 1. The smoking ban for young people will be raised from 16 to 18 years of age. 2. The curfew times for young people should be uniform: 23.00 up to the age of 14, 1.00 up to the age of 16 and no curfew from the age of 16. The decision was also used as an opportunity to check whether the Salzburg Youth Act was up to date as a whole. In this context, the Provincial Government of Salzburg, together with the Austrian Child and Youth Advocacies [Kinder- und Jugendanwaltschaften], youth associations, youth initiatives, representatives of the integration platform and the provincial police directorate listed the following areas in which adjustments need to be made in line with current circumstances and requirements:

- the expansion of youth protection measures (raising the legal age for purchasing tobacco products as well as for using gambling machines, banning participation in lotteries and pool betting, applying youth protection provisions to married minors),

- the composition, term and functions of the provincial youth advisory council [Landes-Jugendbeirat],

- the reorganisation of youth support and

- the consideration of new media.
