The draft ministerial regulation mandates plastic utensils for food to conform with the standard for Plastic Utensils for Food - Part 2 Poly(Vinyl Chloride), Polycarbonate, Polyamide and Poly(Methyl Methacrylate) (TIS 655 Part 2-2554(2011)).

This standard covers plastic containers and utensils in contact with food, single-use or reusable, made from single material or multiple materials, single layer or multiple layers used for prepare, storage or consume, and includes composition of container in contact with food e.g. cap, space, or inner cap. This standard separates plastic utensils by usability in 3 conditions i.e. high temperature, normal temperature and chilling temperature. It classifies plastic utensils for food by types of plastics into 4 types i.e. poly(vinyl chloride), polycarbonate, polyamide and poly(methyl methacrylate). This standard specifies general requirements e.g. resistance to temperature, odor and taste, resistance to impact, safety requirements. It also includes packaging, marking and labeling, sampling and criteria for conformity and testing.
