This import health standard presents the requirements for specified animal products for human use to be imported to New Zealand and consolidates 14 current import health standards for products used for a similar purpose.

The 14 current import health standards that will be replaced are:

·        Specified Animal Products, SPECPROD.ALL

·        Lard and Rendered Fats for Human Consumption from the European Community, MEATALIC.EEC

·        Pre-cooked Heat-and-Eat Meals Containing Animal Products for Human Consumption from Australia, HEAMEAIC.AUS

·        Pre-cooked Heat-and-Eat Meals Containing Animal Products for Human Consumption from Canada and the United States of America, HEAMEAIC.SPE

·        Pig By-products from Canada and / or the United States of America, MEBYPORIC.NAM

·        Rabbit Meat for Human Consumption from the European Community, MEARABIC.EEC 4 October 2004

·        Camel Meat and Meat Products for Human Consumption from Australia, MEACAMIC.AUS

·        Alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) meat from the United States of America, MEAALLIC.USA

·        Crocodile Meat from Papua New Guinea, MEACROIC.PNG

·        Crocodile Meat Products from Australia, MEACROIC.AUS

·        Kangaroo Meat from Australia, MEAKANIC.AUS

·        Meat and Meat Products and Other Products for Human Consumption Derived from Horses for Human Consumption from the European Community, MEAEQUIC.EEC

·        Horse By-products for Further Processing from Specified South American Countries and Mexico, INEHSPIC.SAM

·        Frozen Horse Spleens for Further Processing into New Zealand from Canada and The United States of America, INEHSPIC.SPE

This import health standard also incorporates some commodities imported under following three different standards:

·        Mushrooms for propagation and consumption (pure cultures of mushroom, mushroom spawn, and inoculated substrate) from the import health standard for Microorganisms from all countries (MICROIC.ALL).

·        Biological products for therapeutic use on or in humans from the import health standard Biological Products (BIOLOGIC.ALL).

·        Non-ruminant by-products for pharmaceutical or technical use from the import health standard Cattle, sheep, goat, deer, horse and pig by-products derived from category 3 material only for pharmaceutical use, technical use or petfood from the European Community (INERMLIC.EEC).

Following new commodities and their import requirements have been added to this import health standard based on new import requests, and supporting biosecurity risk advice:

·        Cell cultured/cell cultivated poultry products

·        Elastin peptide

·        Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs)
