The notified draft Mexican Official Standard establishes the minimum safety specifications for electric traction lifts for passengers and freight installed within the territory of the United Mexican States. It also establishes the test methods to be applied in order to check such specifications.

Compliance with this draft Mexican Official Standard is the responsibility of the contractor and the contracting party. It does not apply to lifts known as cargo, radial, hydraulic, paternoster, rack and pinion, screw-drive, mining and theatre lifts, appliances with automatic chocks, bucket elevators and material hoists for civil engineering or building works, bucket elevators and material hoists for civil engineering or building works, lifts installed in ships, floating platforms for offshore exploitation or drilling, or lifts used for assembly and maintenance services. However, it could serve as a useful basis for such lifts.
