The notified draft Mexican Official Standard applies to artisanal sea salt that comes from salt farms with traditional layouts, is obtained using non-industrial means and is used as an ingredient in foods. It is binding throughout Mexican territory on natural and legal persons engaged in the extraction and preparation of such salt or in its packaging, labelling and marketing. This draft Mexican Official Standard does not apply to sea salt that has been subjected to any type of industrial processing.
