This draft regulations on food (colour coding for sugar, salt and fat) set out several requirements.

Any solid, semi solid or liquid food contained in a package or container should be labelled in accordance with this regulations otherwise, no person shall sell, offer for sale, keep for sale, distribute or advertise.

If any solid or semi solid or liquid food contains the amount of sugar or salt or fat which exceeding mention level of amount of sugar or salt or fat in the regulations, shall be the labelled in the manner of as specified in this regulation.

Such Logos shall adhere to the following

·         The diameter of not less than 2cm

·         In red colour with the tone, red 230

·         Shown with a white background

·         Shall display within the logo in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages respectively in bold white and shall be of minimum 2mm font size

·         A numeric description of salt or sugar or fat content in such food with in the logo and the logo shall be minimum 1.5mm font size bold white

·         If any solid, semi solid or liquid food qualifies more than one logo the corresponding logos shall be displayed in close proximity to each other in the main panel of the container or package. However the relevant logos cover more than 25% of surface area of the main panel of the container or package of such food, such logos shall be display in the dispenser pack. The provisions of these regulations shall not apply to any primary agricultural products.
