This Kenya Standard prescribes safety and performance requirements, for bunk beds including:

1.    Strength, stability, and durability for both domestic and non-domestic use.

2.    Safety barriers for top beds to prevent falls.

3.    Design specifications, including required gaps, bed base support, and ladder stability.

4.    Material testing for surface finishes, load-bearing capacity, and impact resistance.

This standard is applicable to completely manufactured or fabricated beds. It is also applicable to ready-to-assemble units, in which the requirements of this standard shall be applicable to the assembled units.
