Draft Amendment to Indonesian Food and Drug Authority Regulation concerning Nutrition Information on Processed Food Labels

The amendment to the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority Regulation on Nutrition Information on Processed Food Labels aims to consolidate three existing regulations, namely: Regulation No. 9 of 2016 on Nutrition Reference Values, Regulation No. 26 of 2021 on Nutrition Information on Processed Food Labels, and Regulation No. 16 of 2020 on Nutrition Information for Processed Foods Produced by Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs). The amendment also reflects the results of the review and evaluation of the implementation of the current regulatory framework.

The draft amendment introduces updated requirements for Nutrition Information Panels (NIP) and Front-of-Pack Nutrition Labelling (FOPNL). It establishes two FOPNL schemes, namely the Healthier Choice Logo and the Nutri-Level system, with the objective of improving consumer awareness, supporting informed and healthier food choices, and encouraging the production and marketing of healthier food products.

The proposed requirements apply equally to domestically produced and imported processed food products placed on the Indonesian market. The requirement to display the Nutri-Level label shall take effect 24 (twenty-four) months after the promulgation of the Regulation.
