The notified Ecuadorian Technical Regulation establishes the requirements to be met by electrical cooking appliances for household and commercial use, prior to the marketing of domestic and imported products, with the aim of protecting human safety and preventing deceptive practices. It applies to the following products:

Electrical cooking appliances for household and commercial use, with a rated voltage not exceeding 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances:

1.- Electrical cooking appliances for household use:

·         Electrical cookers with and without an oven;

·         Hobs;

·         Similar electrical cooking appliances for household use (e.g. grillers and broilers).

2.- Electrical cooking appliances for commercial use:

·         Electrical cookers with and without an oven;

·         Hobs;

·         Hob elements;

·         Similar electrical cooking appliances for commercial use (see Note 1).

Note 1: These appliances are used, for example, in restaurants, cafeterias, hospitals and commercial enterprises such as bakeries and butchers' shops.

It does not apply to:

·         Induction cookers;

·         Ovens;

·         Appliances designed exclusively for industrial purposes;

·         Appliances intended for use in places where there is a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas);

·         Continuous process appliances for the mass production of food;

·         Steam cookers, forced convection ovens and steam-convection ovens;

·         Appliances used to keep food and crockery warm;

·         Microwave ovens; 

.         Portable broilers, toasters and cooking appliances.
