This document specifies the technical requirements, marking and packaging for arc-resistant hoods, face shields and personal protective equipment for eyes, face and head used in electrical work and relevant workplaces, and describes the test methods.

This document applies only to protective hoods, face shields and related personal protective equipment for eyes, face and head against instantaneous electric arc energy and resultant thermal injuries in electrical work and relevant workplaces.

This document does not apply to protective equipment for arc welding operations (e.g., arc welding, plasma welding). This document does not cover other personal arc-resistant articles such as arc-resistant clothing, arc-resistant gloves and arc-resistant overshoes.
