Meat of bovine animals

Modifica Decreto Supremo N° 239 de 1993, del Ministerio de Agricultura, que aprueba reglamento general del sistema obligatorio de clasificación de ganado, tipificación, marca y comercialización de carne bovina (Amendment to Supreme Decree No. 239 of 1993 of the Ministry of Agriculture approving the general regulations of the compulsory system for livestock classification and the grading, marking and marketing of beef) (9 pages, in Spanish)

The purpose of the notified draft amendment to the general regulations of the compulsory system for livestock classification and the grading, marking and marketing of beef is to modify the labelling requirements for domestic and imported packaged beef, by eliminating the requirement to include the grading category on packaged subprimal cuts. Moreover, it provides for the application of a compulsory stamp to be used exclusively for meat from animals born, reared and slaughtered in Chile, and two voluntary stamps that may only be used on meat that already has the compulsory stamp. In other words, both stamps are requirements for domestic meat only. The foregoing seeks to foster regulatory harmonization between Chile and the rest of the world, provide consumers with more information and enhance the effectiveness of monitoring by public services.
