The National Plant Protection Organisation (NPPO) of Australia, the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (the Department) has reviewed on-arrival pest interceptions on imports of fresh kiwifruit from Italy and France and determined that additional pre-export measures are required.

From 12 July 2021 all imports of fresh kiwifruit for human consumption from Italy or France to Australia will be required to undergo methyl bromide fumigation prior to export.

Alternative mitigation measures with relevant efficacy data to support the proposal will be assessed as a priority by the Department where a submission is received from the exporting NPPOs of Italy and France.
