This draft UAE Standard establishes the energy efficiency and energy labeling requirements for televisions and electronic displays placed on the market in the United Arab Emirates. It applies to televisions and other electronic displays while excluding displays with a screen area below 100 cm², projectors, integrated displays in smartphones, tablets and laptops, medical imaging displays, virtual reality headsets, security and surveillance displays, and industrial control panels.

The draft specifies:

·        Maximum allowable energy consumption limits for On Mode, Off Mode, Standby Mode, and Networked Standby Mode;

·        Energy consumption calculation methods based on display technology, screen area, and additional allowances for high-resolution (4K/8K) and HDR displays;

·        Requirements for automatic power-down functionality;

·        A methodology for calculating the Energy Efficiency Index (EEI) and assigning products to energy efficiency classes;

·        Verification testing requirements; and

·        Mandatory energy labeling requirements, including the design and content of the energy label, such as the energy efficiency class, QR code, energy consumption values, screen size, screen resolution, and other product information.

The draft is based on IEC 62087-1:2015 and GSO IEC 62087-3:2024 for measuring the power consumption of televisions and electronic displays. Its objective is to improve the energy performance of electronic displays, provide consumers with transparent and comparable energy efficiency information, reduce electricity consumption, and support the UAE's energy efficiency and sustainability objectives.
