The product specification for ‘Sustainable pork meat’ shall apply without prejudice to the provisions deriving from higher-grade sources, in particular with regard to European Union and national legislation on the safety of the food chain, animal health and welfare and the placing of products on the market.

The specification ‘Pork meat from sustainable farming’ is applicable to the farming activity for the production of pork meat and proposes a pathway to sustainability for farms.
The aim with regard to “sustainability” is to improve and monitor the conditions of animal welfare and the environment and to promote the launch of a circular economy, leading to the reuse of edible food materials and waste, safeguarding the social and economic conditions of farmers.
Pork produced in accordance with the specification may be labelled “from sustainable farming”.
