AMA Quality Seal Guideline – Flowers and Ornamental Plants – Amendment

The AMA Quality Seal Guideline for Flowers and Ornamental Plants is amended as follows:

• The EC value is included as a further parameter for assessing the supply of nutrients to plants.
• Unless the product explicitly states that the potted herbs are not suitable for human consumption, the limit values for plant protection products applicable to foodstuffs must be observed in the case of potted herbs. If the product is sold to consumers and is intended for human consumption, the statutory maximum levels for foodstuffs must be complied with at the point of sale.
9. The AMA quality seal guidelines are used for the production and labelling of high-quality, i.e. above the statutory standard, agricultural products and products made from them. The amendment to the guideline is intended to ensure that the quality of products bearing the AMA Quality Seal is maintained and further improved.
Grounds for amending the AMA Quality Seal Guideline for Flowers and Ornamental Plants:
• As potted herbs are purchased for consumption, they are regarded as foodstuffs for the purposes of this guideline; consequently, the maximum level for residues must be complied with for foodstuffs in the case of plant protection products. This ensures that consumers receive safe foodstuffs.
• The EC value is frequently used in practice and should therefore be recognised as an additional parameter
