Products, namely licence plates for motor vehicles with a maximum speed not exceeding 25 km/h, equipped with an electric motor with a maximum continuous rated power of no more than 4 kW (no European-type approval and no disabled vehicle).
Regulation amending, inter alia, the Regulation on registration numbers and licence plates in connection with the registration and licence-numbering obligation for special mopeds
Article I(A) and (C) of this draft Regulation may contain a technical regulation. This concerns the characteristics of the licence plate to be affixed to a particular moped.
From 1 January 2025, it will be mandatory in the Netherlands to display a registration number on special mopeds. These are motor vehicles with a maximum design speed not exceeding 25 km/h, equipped with an electric motor with a maximum continuous rated power of no more than 4 kW, other than a disabled vehicle, which does not require type-approval in accordance with European Union requirements (special mopeds). A registration number shall be printed on a licence plate attached to the vehicle.
This amending Regulation determines the requirements to be met by a licence plate, namely its dimensions and colour. The requirement to affix a licence plate to a vehicle does not apply to special mopeds in international traffic coming from a country in which no licence number is issued for those vehicles. Special mopeds coming from a country for which a registration number has been indicated is subject to mutual recognition (Article 37(1)(b) of the 1994 Road Traffic Act).
