Maritime buoyage system and maritime navigational aids

In connection with the amendment of the Water Traffic Act (782/2019), it will be made possible to use virtual navigational aids in addition to physical navigational aids.

On 3 July 2020, the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency issued a regulation on the marking and illumination of lanes and on the buoyage system to be used, as well as on the structure, significance, colour and light identification of maritime navigational aids. As a result of a legislative amendment, it is also necessary to add regulations concerning virtual navigational aids to this regulation. The regulation clarifies how information can be transmitted from different navigational aids. It also provides for the content of an application for a virtual navigational aid.
