Helicopters and aeroplanes

The Swedish Transport Agency’s regulations and general advice (TSFS 2021:XX) on firefighting with aeroplanes and helicopters

The regulations are proposed to apply to firefighting, which is exempt from common European provisions in accordance with Article 2(3)(a) of Regulation (EU) 2018/1139 of the European Parliament and of the Council. For the purpose of these regulations, firefighting refers to an aircraft being used to extinguish fires in forests and on the ground from the air.

The draft contains rules for how firefighting with aeroplanes and helicopters is to be conducted (flight operating rules). The draft imposes that the rules for firefighting in relevant parts comply with the EU rules in Part-SPO, Part-ORO and Part-NCO in Regulation (EU) No 965/2012. The above-mentioned EU rules regulate what is referred to as specialised air operations that have many similarities with firefighting.
