marketable quality of foodstuffs

Draft Regulation of the Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development amending the Regulation laying down detailed requirements for the marketable quality of jams, preserves, jellies, marmalades, plum jams and sweetened chestnut purée.

The following changes are proposed in the draft Regulation of the Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development amending the Regulation laying down detailed requirements for the marketable quality of jams, preserves, jellies, marmalades, plum jams and sweetened chestnut purée:

- the introduction of the derogation from the minimum soluble dry matter content limit, expressed as a refractometric index, for certain products for which the ‘reduced sugar content’ marking was applied or which bear a similar nutrition claim of equivalent meaning for the consumer within the meaning of the Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 December 2006 on nutrition and health claims made on foods (O J EU L 404 of 30.12.2006, p. 9, as amended);

- the introduction of the possibility to add lemon juice or concentrated lemon juice to preserves and extra-class preserves as an acidity regulator instead of the food additives used for this purpose pursuant to the Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 December 2008 on food additives.
