Marking of railway vehicles

Swedish Transport Agency regulations on the registration and marking of railway vehicles

The proposal for new regulations includes provisions on the registration and marking of railway vehicles. The Swedish Transport Agency has issued the regulations on registration and marking that apply at present (TSFS 2014:47). The regulations need to be revised as a result of what is known as the fourth railway package (EU legislation). The new regulations will cover on the one hand vehicles under the future Railway Technologies Act (harmonised EU legislation), and on the other hand vehicles under the future National Railway Systems Act (vehicles to be exempt from harmonised EU legislation). The regulations deal with matters such as which details need to be submitted by the vehicle owner to the Swedish Transport Agency when the vehicle is to be registered in the national vehicles register; the obligation of the vehicle owner to report any change to the details submitted; how the vehicle is to be marked; and which vehicles are exempt from the marking requirement. Furthermore, the regulations state that the vehicle must not be used if details of the vehicle have not been submitted to the Swedish Transport Agency or if the registration has been cancelled or temporarily suspended. In addition, it is stated that the vehicle may not be used if the obligation to mark the vehicle has not been met.
