This Guideline and Regulation for Highway Construction [Richtlinien und Vorschriften für das Straßenwesen — RVS] is applicable to the execution of direction signs and the design of indication signs on motorways and intersection-free expressways classed as dual carriageways (hereinafter referred to as ‘motorways’).

In the interests of the most economical and appropriate use of funds it is noted that the requirements of this RVS refer only to signage which is to be newly installed and signage which needs to be replaced owing to its condition. The replacement of signage solely for the purpose of complying with the requirements of this RVS is not envisaged.
