- Electrical installations serving to produce, transform, transport, distribute or use electricity, provided that the nominal frequency of the current does not exceed 10 000 Hz;

- Communication and information technology, signalling or control cables (with the exception of the internal circuits of appliances) in the case of fire prevention measures that are integrated into the electrical installations.

Royal Decree making compulsory Book 1 on low voltage and very low voltage electrical installations, Book 2 on high voltage electrical installations and Book 3 on electricity transport and distribution installations.

(Restructuring of the General Regulation on electrical installations approved by the Royal Decrees of 10 March 1981 and 2 September 1981 - RGIE)

Technical installation rules applicable equally to new and existing electrical installations. The technical rules for installations are set forth in three themed Books:

- Book 1: Low voltage and very low voltage electrical installations (alternating voltage < 1 000 V and smooth and non-smooth direct voltage < 1 500 V)

- Book 2: High voltage electrical installations (alternating voltage > 1 000 V and smooth and non-smooth direct voltage > 1 500 V)

- Book 3: Installations for the transport and distribution of electricity (grid manager)

There are nine sections in each book:

1. General requirements for electrical equipment and installations

2. Terms and Definitions

3. Determining the general characteristics of electrical installations

4. Protective measures

5. Choice and implementation of electrical equipment

6. Installation inspections

7. Rules for particular installations and locations

8. Particular requirements for existing installations

9. General requirements to be observed
