The proposed specification prescribes additional requirements for milk and milk products based on the microbiological quality of milk for cows milk, sheeps milk and goats milk. It also define the freshness of milk since the milk must be accepted into the processing plant within a maximum of 15 hours from the collection.

The specification sets out additional requirements for products produced on the farm. For products with the additional indication "farm product" milk for processing must come from the farm or may be purchased from a maximum of 15 farms within a radius of up to 25 km around the farm where the milk is processed. The cheeses are produced from raw milk and fermented products are produced from non-homogenised milk.  The specification refers to milk and milk products produced and processed within one country. The requirements of the proposed specification therefore relate to the labelling with the logo indicating the country of production and the processing of the raw material.
