Trailers, semi-trailers and converter dollies - safety specifications and test methods

1.1 The notified Mexican Official Standard (NOM) establishes the minimum safety and operating specifications for new or used trailers, semi-trailers and converter dollies that are imported into the territory of the United Mexican States and applies to manufacturers and importers of trailers and/or semi-trailers and/or converter dollies.

1.2 The Mexican Official Standard applies to trailers and semi-trailers with a gross vehicle weight rating of over 14,000 kg and converter dollies with a gross vehicle weight rating of over 9,000 kg.

1.3 The Mexican Official Standard does not apply to trailers, semi-trailers or dolly converters recognized as being specifically assigned to the transport of non-divisible objects of considerable weight and/or volume, as described in Mexican Official Standard NOM-040-SCT-2-1995, for the transport of non-divisible objects of great weight and/or volume, the weight and dimensions of combinations of vehicles and industrial cranes and their conveyance on roads and bridges under federal jurisdiction, or the Standard replacing it.

1.4 The Mexican Official Standard does not apply to trailers and semi-trailers registered by the United Mexican States before 29 November 2010.

1.5 In addition, this Mexican Official Standard shall not apply to trailers, semi-trailers and converter dollies imported into the country under the temporary admission regime, in conformity with Article 106, paragraph I of the Customs Law.
