The notified Ecuadorian Technical Regulation establishes the requirements to be met by mineral water and purified water, prior to the marketing of domestic and imported products, with the aim of protecting human health and preventing deceptive practices.

It applies to the following products:

1.         Natural mineral water:

·           Natural carbonated mineral water;

·           Natural non-carbonated mineral water;

·           Natural mineral water fortified with gas from the spring;

·           Natural mineral water with added carbon dioxide;

·           Natural decarbonated mineral water;

2.         Mineral water not packaged at the source:

·           Non-carbonated mineral water;

·           Mineral water with added carbon dioxide;

·           Decarbonated mineral water;

3.         Packaged purified water:

·           Packaged purified water;

·           Packaged purified mineral water.

It does not apply to:

·           Drinking water; 

·           Purified water for pharmaceutical use.
