Chayote fruit (Sechium edule)

Establece requisitos de Importación de frutos de Chayote (Sechium edule) procedentes de Costa Rica (Establishment of import requirements for chayote fruit (Sechium edule) from Costa Rica) Language(s): Spanish Number of pages: 3

Further to the request by the State Phytosanitary Service (SFE) of Costa Rica to export fresh chayote fruit (Sechium edule) to Chile, SAG conducted a risk analysis, which led to the establishment of phytosanitary requirements and identified Diaphania hyalinata and Pseudococcus jackbeardsleyi as pests posing a phytosanitary risk.

In particular, these requirements stipulate that:

-         Prior to the beginning of the first export season of fresh chayote fruit to Chile, SAG requires activities to be carried out in situ so that it can become acquainted with and check production processes (at both production and packing facilities) and the SFE's official certification process.

-         Consignments must be accompanied by an official phytosanitary certificate (original copy) issued by the phytosanitary authority of the country of origin, containing the following additional declaration: "The consignment has been inspected and is free from Diaphania hyalinata and Pseudococcus jackbeardsleyi." Details of the established requirements can be found in the draft Resolution attached to the notification.
