Chapter XX "Official Analytical Methods" of the Argentine Food Code is amended to include Article 1413 bis, which provides that alternative methods may be applied to complement the use of the analytical methods outlined in the various articles of this Code, in cases where the laboratory demonstrates the performance characteristics set forth in this draft Joint Resolution.

These provisions shall not be applicable to identification and/or microorganism enumeration techniques, which shall be applied in compliance with the relevant microbiological criteria and/or specific regulatory requirements. The analytical methods established by the resolutions of the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) are also excluded.

In addition to the performance criteria, the participation in proficiency tests or inter-laboratory comparisons relating to the alternative measures applied shall be optional.
