The draft legislation sets out fire safety requirements for the design and installation of charging points for externally charged vehicles – electric vehicles – where the charging points are installed in covered car parks.

The draft legislation sets out fire safety requirements for the design and installation of charging points for externally charged vehicles – electric vehicles – where the charging points are installed in covered car parks.

The fire safety requirements set out in the draft legislation are based on practical evidence (e.g. fire experience, electric vehicle fire suppression tests), following an assessment of regulatory practices in European countries and an analysis of fire safety guidelines for electric vehicles parked in covered car parks and their charging infrastructure. This draft legislation also clarifies which types of vehicle storage facilities – open or enclosed – are subject to the regulations, namely those covered by the ceilings, attics, basement floors and roofs of buildings.
