Irland Business to Consumer Gambling as defined in the Gambling Regulation Act 2024
Gambling (Opening Hours and Use of Premises) Regulations 2026
The Authority is making regulations under section 176(4) prohibiting the sale of alcohol at a premises in respect of which an in-person betting licence is held.
It should be noted that the regulations will not alter the existing position: under Irish law before the enactment of the Gambling Regulation Act 2024, sections 19(3) and 19A of the Betting Act 1931 Act make it clear that the sale of alcohol in a registered bookmaking office is prohibited. It is intended that, when the Gambling Regulation Act 2024 is commenced, the Betting Act 1931 will be repealed.
In addition, section 176(1) of the Gambling Regulation Act 2024 enables the Authority to prescribe days or hours during which a premises in respect of which an in-person gambling licence is held may not open.
The regulations also prescribe opening hours for premises in respect of which an in-person betting licence is held. Again, they provide for the maintenance of the same opening hours as are permitted by Irish law prior to the enactment of the Gambling Regulation Act 2024.
