Invasive alien species

Ordinance on invasive alien species

The regulations mean that the species listed in the annex to the Ordinance on invasive alien species are subject to a ban on, among other things, intentionally introducing the species into the country and releasing them on the market or into the environment.

The county administrative board is given the power to decide on and take eradication and restoration measures. For species that are already established in the country, the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency shall develop appropriate management programmes and measures to prevent further spread and reduce their distribution.
The provisions of Chapter 3, Section 1 of the proposed Ordinance mean that it will be prohibited to intentionally introduce the species in question into the country, keep or breed the species, even in cases where this takes place in closed storage, transport the species, except to facilities involved in eradication, place the species on the market, use or exchange the species, allow the species to reproduce, grow or be cultivated, even in closed storage, or release the species into the environment. Exceptions to the prohibitions apply in certain cases (Chapter 3, Sections 2–9). The species covered by the national list are specified in the appendix to the regulations.
